My image "shine" is probably the favorite in my dA gallery and I'll tell you why. I am a huge fan of glossy, magazine-ready images that reek of complicated lighting and perfect re-touching but my style is developing into something rugged, more 'street' like but with an artistic flair. I don't mind blurs and uneven lighting as long as the mood of the image can be felt by the viewer. For all it's "faults", "shine" has the most emotion of any image in my gallery. It's the only one that warrants a second, deeper view. It's the only that will actually make you stop and wonder "Why did she submit that?" It's staged but has a feeling of a candid capture, which is the ultimate goal of all of my pictures. I love it.

So

The mother of baby Maddox, that gorgeous newborn in my gallery, showed her proofs from our shoot to a friend who happens to be the owner of a semi-prominent public relations firm and now they want me to do the photography for their corporate events!! Um, I can't even begin to explain how exciting it is to get paid to party! :w00t: What's even more tremendous (and downright unbelievable) is that these corporate events feature many "famous" people so I'll be able to network like crazy.

I am beyond excited about this! Yay for me!
:headbang:

On another note, I realize that a lot of the photography on this site has no function other than to solicit comments from other dA viewers. This isn't a bad thing, as "bad" and "good" are relative to the individual and his/her goals. I encourage you to create art for whatever purposes you choose but don't limit yourself to this forum. The world is way bigger than deviantART! :D

Have you touched someone with your art recently?
Have you inspired laughter or tears; joy or serious contemplation?
Have you created social awareness or sparked controversy?
Or is your art selfish? Here only to serve you and your imagination?

Recently I purchased a book of portraits by National Geographic photographers. Amazing, beautiful portraits. There was a photograph in the book that worth over $6,000. The image is of a shattered little boy who has just seen his family's flock of sheep run over by a speeding taxi cab. The photographer explains that after this image was published in National Geographic, readers were so moved that they contributed over $6,000 to the little boy. Not only was his family able to buy new sheep but the village received a new water pump. All this because of a photograph.

Know why you do what you do.

You don't have to save the world, just remember you're the only person in it.

I'm really trying not to turn my dA gallery into a family photo album. :P

Have I told you I love the snow? I love all weather, really. :) As long as I'm alive to breathe it, I'm not complaining. Jeez. I sound like my mother =|

If you're interested, here are the rest of the photos I took today while we were out. Sometimes I'd prefer not to shoot when we're out and about, especially when I'm alone with them, but there was no way I could resist after briefly considering the potential for cool shots. :D

I won't be on so much this week. Lots to do to get ready for school and I'm also doing a newborn shoot as well as some other gigs. Busy. Busy. Busy. Just how I like it.

Easy*

SO

*n8tve

I started a new account to display my Holga shots. See above. Now that I'm going to be shooting MUCH more, I want to keep my personalities - and galleries - separate. When I can successfully combine the two different styles, I will have made a great leap creatively.

I finally hooked up my Canon scanner and scanned some 120 roll negatives onto the computer. I'm so excited about this scanner because it was inexpensive (compared to other film scanners) and it's easy to use. :w00t:

I scanned 4 rolls of 120 negatives, images made with my modified Holga. Out of 48 photos, there is only ONE I really like. I have a few others that will "pass" but they're mediocre to me.

I read today in Jan/Feb's issue of American Photo (or was it in the new issue of Digital Photo Pro?) "The difference between a pro and an amateur is that pros don't have to show their bad shots." lol. I guess that makes sense.
